The Top 5 #Hashtag Mistakes Marketers Make On Social Media

Hashtag MistakesHashtags have become synonymous with social media marketing and it’s no wonder why. A totally unique component of social media, hashtags have the ability to grow your following, expand the reach of your content and highlight important words within your status updates.

One less obvious thing that your hashtags tell your audience is whether you actually know what you are doing or not. If you are making novice mistakes while hashtagging your social media posts, it tells your readers a lot about you. If your target audience are newbie social networking users, this is less of a factor, however if the audience you are trying to reach have been on social for a while, you’re going to need to be sure you know what you’re doing.

Here are the Top Five Most Common Hashtag Mistakes:

1) Not Hashtagging – When you do not hashtag the words and phrases your target audience is following, it’s like fishing without using any bait. Make it easy for your audience to find you by not only sharing the content that is interesting and relevant to them, but by including the hashtags that they follow.

2) Too Many Hashtags – Though it is our belief that there are no steadfast rules in social media marketing, there are best practices that will achieve better results. We do not think there is or should be a defined rule for the number of hashtags you use in a post, but common sense goes a long way. If you use so many hashtags in a post that it becomes distracting instead of helpful, you are using too many.

On Instagram, we see this abused quite frequently. Only add relevant hashtags to your posts instead of baiting followers with completely irrelevant and numerous hashtags.

3) Inconsistency – One of the most overlooked and effective techniques in social media marketing is consistency. We are referring to two distinct types. 1) Topical and 2) Frequency

Topical Consistency: Stay on target with 5-8 topics that interest your audience and determine the hashtags that are most common and effective surrounding those topics. If you attempt to be known for more than a handful of key topics and/or are hashtagging so many different categories, you will be far less effective.

Frequency Consistency: If you are going to hashtag, do it consistently. Within social media marketing there is nothing more effective than being consistent with your posting, topics and hashtags.

4) It’s All Me! – This one really sets off the newbie radar. For the love of all things social media holy, stop hashtagging your name, your brand or your product name. You are not Starbucks, Pepsi or Oreo. Hashtags are active links allowing people to see all content about a relevant topic. You or your new/tiny company are not that, at least not yet. Don’t get the cart before the horse, or you never will be either.

5) Confusing Hashtags – Unless you are trying to be funny on occasion (which we love), don’t hashtag long phrases or words only you understand the meaning to. You are simply confusing your audience and not achieving anything meaningful for you or your social media success.

How you use hashtags, how many and what hashtags you use say a lot about you. Making adjustments to what you are doing with hashtags can make a significant difference toward improving your real results. Take some time to evaluate what you have been doing and how your audience is responding, then insert some higher level, conscious tactics that will be inline with your goals and your communities needs.

Are You Truly Thankful With Your Social Media?

It’s that amazing time of year again when we all consider our blessings and those that are blessings to us. As I considered what we were going to post this year I started thinking about all of the people and brands we are connected with, those that read and share our Being and showing you are Thankful In Social Mediacontent and our amazing loyal users. We are truly grateful to all of them and we make considerable attempts to show it every single day of the year.

This Thanksgiving, I wanted to dive deeper into the meaning of the word “Thankful”.

I also wanted to better understand the opposite of being Thankful. That is being ungrateful.

    “she’s so ungrateful for everything we do”
  2. not pleasant or acceptable:
    “he turned to the ungrateful task of forming a police cordon”

I found this exercise pretty telling. If you don’t feel thankful, you tend to not show it and therefore are ungrateful. I would take it further as it relates to social media marketing and say that “If you are ungrateful for the generosity and mentions of your community and ignore their sharing of your content, there is something clearly wrong.” In fact, I would go further and say that if you’re not thankful, it is because you tend to think you are entitled, better than others or arrogant. Is that a harsh statement? I think it’s pretty accurate.

Think about the brands, celebrities and industry “guru’s” that you’ve mentioned over the past year. Specifically, consider the ones that show appreciation when you mention them or share their content. When they display Thankfulness, how does it make YOU feel? Aren’t you far more likely to engage them again in the future, share more of their content or recommend them to others? Of course you would be.

On the contrary, when you share or RT content from a brand or individual and they never show they are Thankful, how does THAT make you feel? This is the entire point we are attempting to make here.

As we considered whether we are truly thankful and whether or not we put that gratitude into action, I decided to have the team run some numbers. As a rule, our entire team make an attempt to thank every single mention, share or RT across all platforms in the social graph. When you consider that we average around 2,000 of those on any given day, it requires time, resources and a commitment. For us it is not a question of whether it should be done or not, it has to be done. When you are really thankful for the efforts that others make on your behalf, it isn’t an option or a question of resources, but a conscious act of being and showing thankfulness. We are truly thankful…

Taking it further I had our team run some numbers. Here’s what we discovered about how we use our BundlePost system to show our grateful appreciation. Personal and Expanded Accounts Get Randomize Function In BundlePost

There are several distinctions between the different BundlePost account types. Though the majority of BundlePost users are Pro accounts that provide unlimited feeds, schedules, hashtags and upgraded functions, our Expanded and Personal account users are no less important to us. We recently evaluated the different social content management account types, their features and capabilities and came to a realization that we needed to make a few changes.

Pro accounts have always had the efficient Randomize function and recently were also given the new Mix algorithm, which makes shuffling up to 100 scheduled posts by curated source, topic and marketing messages in a single click a real breeze. This new feature was also designated as a Pro account only function, leaving Personal and Expanded accounts to continue to drag and drop scheduled posts, without any automation. We decided this needed to be changed…

Randomize feature for BundlePost Expanded and Pro UsersToday BundlePost is announcing that we have reconfigured Personal and Expanded accounts to include the Randomize feature.

Now Expanded and Personal account types can single click randomize their 40-50 scheduled posts. When managing curation for social media from multiple sources, RSS Feeds and marketing repository messages, the drag and drop capability becomes a more fine tuning strategic function, instead of the only way to mix posts from various sources. Clicking the Randomize button will randomize your scheduled posts to ensure a more random order of the content and subject matter you are posting to social media, and do it in a much more efficient way.

Though the new Intelligent Mix algorithm will remain a Pro Only feature, the Randomize feature will definitely infuse a substantial boost in efficiency to our other user types. Let us know what you think!

More BundlePost Upgrades And Added Features Go Live

BundlePost releases new upgradeYou know that huge wish list you have in a spreadsheet somewhere on your computer? The things you would really like to get done that improves your product or service, but might not be the highest priority. Things that make it look better, work better or even just flow better. That list you keep adding to, but never seem to have the time to tackle? Ya that…

BundlePost quietly launched a substantial package of upgraded interface, features and enhancements late last week that had been on our wish list for some time. While a few other large development projects were moving to their next phase, our team focused on some massive improvements that any savvy application user would expect from a social media tool.

What’s New?

Interface – We have unified all navigational buttons across the platform. We chose a clean format that is something you would expect to see in an app of our caliber. We cleaned up a lot of nagging inconsistencies throughout the system with button wording, positioning and sizes. Clean, simple, unified. We think you’ll like it a lot!

Content Search – Yep, we added search across the entire system. Every folder list, content list and table now has a search function right above the table. The search feature will search every post, folder, or list on your screen in realtime and display the matching results as you type.Bundle Post Interface Upgrade

We can’t count how many times we’ve had a My Content marketing post saved, but could not remember the actual text of the post or when we had added it to our marketing message repository in the system. Scrolling through hundreds of posts is no longer a problem.

Column Sorting – We have added column sorting throughout the system. You can click on the column header of any section in BundlePost and sort all information by that column A-Z. The headers toggle Z-A as you click again. Can you say handy?

Upgraded Export Table – Not only have we unified the interface across the board on the main export table, but we have also enhanced the post buttons and more. Here are the main things you will notice;

1) Main Buttons – unified with new button interface design

2) Active schedule displayed – which schedule are you managing content for right now

3) New post action buttons – very clean look and layout.

4) Feed Source Icons – click the feeds drop down to select a feed channel of content and make visual choices faster based on the feed source/type icons appearing next to each feed.

Feed Channels – We also gave the feed channels page itself a needed upgrad, making it more user-friendly and easier on the eyes. All of the other system-wide enhancements can be found within your feed channels page.

With a consistent focus on improving social media management, content curation, scheduling and hashtagging, you will find that these new BundlePost enhancements represent our continual focus on improving the efficiency, effectiveness and results of our users social media marketing. The Top 50 Hashtags Used In @BundlePost

The top used hashtagsThis week we are releasing the top 50 hashtags being replaced by Bundle Post users. The patent pending hashtag technology within Bundle Post allows users to hashtag up to 100 scheduled social media posts in just about one second. Yes, we said one second.

Background:

Originally as a social media agency, we developed what became the Bundle Post system exclusively for us. We had no intention on creating a product, however it worked so successfully that we knew in a matter of weeks that everyone using social for marketing needed it and we would become a social media software company.

The automated hashtag tool arose out of a few facts.

1) We all know hashtags are extremely important to highlight specific words in a status update, attract your target audience and develop thought leadership on certain topics, among many other reasons.

2) We also know that it is extremely time consuming, not consistent or as effective as it could be, so we developed a system that would resolve these challenges.

How It Works:

The Bundle Post hashtag system has three components.

1) Folders – You can create folders within the system to segment hashtags you wish to use based on clients, topics, campaigns or projects.

2) Keyword/Phrase – Within a folder you can specify the EXACT keyword or phrase you want the system to find in the text of up to 100 scheduled social media posts.

3) Replace – Tell Bundle Post the exact hashtag or @mention you want replaced for each keyword/phrase within a folder.

When you’re managing up to 100 curated or marketing message posts in Bundle Post, you simply call the hashtag folder you wish to run against the scheduled status updates you have on screen and click to “Hashtag Now”. In one second the automated hashtag tool will find all of the exact keywords or phrases contained in the social media posts and replace them with your specified exact hashtag or mention.

With thousands of users and hashtag folders in the Bundle Post database, we are now able to report on the top 50 hashtags being replaced by our users. They are listed below in hashtag popularity order, with the most popular keyword/phrases associated with each specific hashtag.
