Hashtag Automation Gets An Efficiency Upgrade

The Bundle Post development team has been hard at work on a copious amount of back-end systems upgrades. Many of the things we have been working on are not things you can actually see, but server enhancements and scalability upgrades that are the underlying foundation for the larger feature additions that are in development. There are so many groundbreaking social media management capabilities coming down the pipe in the next several months, but we have to wait to share all that. However, we did roll out a few enhancements to the automated hashtagging functions within the system that we are sure you’re going to appreciate.

Automatically hashtag social media postsFor those of you that are unaware, part of the Bundle Post 20 patent pending claims is our Automated Hashtagging System. This feature enables you to identify exact keywords, phrases and company names that you would like the system to locate in the text of curated and marketing posts, then automatically convert those into replaced hashtags or @mentions you desire. Not only can you schedule 100 content curation and social media posts rapidly with total control over what is scheduled, but you can also hashtag those 100 social media posts in about one second! 

Another use for the Bundle Post Hashtag function is to automatically turn company names into their @ Twitter names. You can simple tell the system what exactly to find (example Bundle Post) and instead of replace the company name in the text of the post with a specific hashtag, you can tell the system to replace it with the Twitter name (@BundlePost). So anytime “Bundle Post” appears in the text of a post within the system, it will be modified to display @BundlePost. Pretty cool huh? Yes, we know. :-)

With the background explained, lets discuss the enhancements to the hashtag system that is now live for all users.

Bundle Post Auto Hashtag Function Upgrade:

1) Sorting View – Previously when you opened and viewed a Hashtag folder in Bundle Post, the keyword list for that folder were displayed in recent order, putting the most recently added keyword and replacement hashtag at the top. We found this very difficult to easily find keywords and replacement hashtags contained in the folders. Now – when you view a hashtag folder or open a folder to hashtag your scheduled posts, they are all displayed alphabetically. making it easy to find/view specific keywords in your list.

2) Hashtag Order – We have made the actual hashtag system more intelligent to ensure that single word finds aren’t preempted by phrases when you run hashtags in the system. Previously the system would hashtag your scheduled posts in the same sequence in which you added the hashtags into that folder, similar to the old sorting view we described above. What that meant was that if you had a keyword/hashtag for the single word “Social” before the phrase “Social Media” in your hashtag folder, the system would find and hashtag the word “social to #social” then not be able to find the exact phrase “social(space)media”, leaving your posts looking like this: #Social Media is awesome.

The new functionality ensures that whatever sequence you have added keywords or phrases to your hashtag folders, the system will always hashtag phrases with multiple words in them first, then hashtag single words after that. The new intelligent function tracts all of your hashtags listed and determines how many words you have in each Find field and uses that information to intelligently automate the hashtagging of your scheduled posts.

What you will potentially find is that keywords that were not being hashtagged even though you had them listed in your folder are now being discovered properly by the system. You will also be able to more easily manage the keywords and hashtags within Bundle Post to ensure your posts are always hashtagged and done so properly.

The Bundle Post social media marketing, content curation and content management tool is a completely unique approach that gives you complete control of your posts and gives you the time to engage and get results. All of the automation resides in the back office, so nothing is auto posted to your newsfeeds.

The What, When and How Of Social Media Marketing Messages – Part 1

Most social media professionals are aware that along with sharing curated content and posts it is also extremely important to share your created content and marketing messages at appropriate levels. Though some mistakenly post only their promotional posts, combining sales messaging content with selfless, relevant and interesting posts your audience will find valuable is an essential part of any social media strategy.

The What, when and how of posting social media sales and marketing message posts.It’s perfectly alright to promote your brand and offers within social media. In fact, if you’re using social media for marketing, that should be one of the reasons you’re there in the first place. The issue becomes when and how often you post promotional messages, not if you do.

Many industry leaders tend to state that an effective ratio of shared/curated content is best at a level of somewhere between 75% to 85% of a marketers posts. The remaining 15% to 25% can be made up of your promotional, sales messages and created content. The idea is that since this is SOCIAL media, the goal is to provide selfless value to your audience, and that is done by sharing content and posts that they find valuable, not just your posts. This practice tends to start conversations with your community members. When this value based process is repeated over time, relationships develop that make people more open to what you actually do.

One of the challenges that social media marketers, brands and agencies have related to their marketing messages is not knowing all of the content and messaging they have available to share. 14 Things I’ve Learned About Content Curation In Social Media

We recently published a post called “50 Random Things I Have Learned About Social Media Marketing” that quickly became one of our most viewed posts of all time. It was obvious that many people appreciate a clear and concise post that lists actionable items and truths about effective social media marketing. We decided to apply the same principle to a post about content curation.

14 things I've learned about content curation in social mediaContent curation is something that has been written about quite extensively, however most people still don’t seem to understand what it is and how to be effective with it in social media. In fact many brands even ignore the importance of curation in their streams and instead continually talk about themselves.

Let’s start off by assigning a definition to content curation that is easily understood. Content Curation is the act of discovering, aggregating and posting online content that was produced by others, not yourself. Curation is typically focused on a specific topic or small number of topics that are considered relevant to the audience you’re trying to reach. Though it is often misunderstood, to actually curate relevant content is to also add context, editorial comment or attribution to posts that you are sharing, content curation has become synonymous with aggregating and sharing relevant content whether or not context is added to the post.

As the founder and CEO of Bundle Post, an experienced social media marketer and previously a social media agency founder, I have a lot of time and effort invested in understanding and effectively using social content curation. Here are just a few of the things I have learned over the years that I believe you will find eye-opening and helpful.

14 (of the hundreds of things) I’ve learned about curating content in social media:

1) Knowing your audience and what they’re interested in is imperative.

2) Curating content from the same popular sources everyone else is, is not effective.

3) Curating content that is suggested from sites based on what others are already sharing is not effective. (see number 2)

4) Curating unique, recent and relevant content that is targeted toward your audience’s interest, will initiate engagement by your audience.

5) Retweeting on Twitter and Sharing posts on Facebook is not curating with a strategy, it’s executing someone else’s strategy. You need to RT and share other people’s posts, but not as your entire posting strategy.

6) Hashtagging curated posts with a strategy will grow your target audience if you do it properly.

7) Important reasons you must curate quality content posts:

  1. Provide relevant, selfless value to your community
  2. Build thought leadership on topics important to your strategy
  3. To stay top of mind with your audience
  4. To spark conversations
  5. To earn the right to share and promote your stuff

8) Developing a specific curation strategy is an important part of an overall social media strategy.

9) People are not logged in watching their streams all day, every day. Having enough relevant posts all day long is important.

10) Being consistent with your curation posting makes a huge difference in your results.

11) Proper content curation sparks conversations with your audience and that leads to relationships and ROI.

12) When a curated post receives a lot shares, likes and engagement, it is resonating with your audience. Schedule it several more times over the next week to maximize the effectiveness of that single post.

13) There is no choice between quantity and quality with content curation. It’s always BOTH.

14) Curated social media posts that often get the most shares and engagement are the ones that are by relatively unknown sources!

As you can see, effective social media curation is anything but mindless sharing. It is conscious and active and based on a deep understanding of your audience. There is a substantial difference between the end results of sharing content suggested by some algorithm, a tribe you belong to or content that is really popular as opposed to curation of unique, recent and relevant content your audience finds interesting and valuable. The thoughtful execution of a well thought out strategy is what makes content curation massively effective in the long run.

@BundlePost Adds Content Curation, Editing And More: Huge 2.5 Release

One of the things you learn to love (or dislike) about software is the fact that it is never done. There are always improvements, fixes and OUR favorite, upgrades. Here at Bundle Post we are currently 30 days into a 60 day Bundle Post 2.5development cycle that will inevitably start all over again with our next feature set. Today however, we are announcing a mid-version upgrade that includes several substantial “under the hood” system improvements that result in a large group of features and enhancements that we think you’re going to love.

The new features are all focused on improved social media management, content discovery, ease of use and greater social media content management efficiencies and effectiveness. We will cover each new feature and enhancement included in this release one at a time and also detail the advantages and changes you can expect.

Curation Edits:

Without a lot of fluff, let’s get right to it.

You can now inline edit the text of social media posts right on the export table, in real-time. We have also made it so that edits made to the text of a post on the Export Table will also save that edit to the original Feed Channel, My Content and Follow Friday posts in the database, not just for that export.

Previously, the only way to edit or curate the text of aggregated content within Bundle Post was by viewing a feed from the Feed Channel page in the system. Today that changes.

We know that social media and content marketing is far more effective when the content being shared is curated, rather than simply aggregated and shared. Meaning, adding context to the post beyond just sharing the title. Aggregation is collecting and posting or Retweeting other people’s content through your social media accounts, where curation combines aggregation with added comments, questions or otherwise editorializing the post by adding context to the content being shared. Curated content always gets higher click-through rates, conversation, engagement and overall results as compared to aggregated content posting alone.

The curation function on the export table makes this incredibly easy and efficient for Pro users of Bundle Post. As with other major system upgrades, the new curation feature is being added to Pro account types only. Expanded users can upgrade to Pro for double export quantities, Auto-sort functionality as well as the powerful new curation feature.

*note: Curation edits made anywhere in the system will be saved to the database for you. The next time you want to share a post you have curated, the original edit you made will appear. You will be able to edit posts over and over as you see fit and the last edit of a post will be saved to the respective Feed Channel, My Content or Follow Friday folders.

**To edit the text of a post on the Export Table, simply double click on the text, make your edits and press “enter” or click the OK button.

Sanitizing Feeds:

Bundle Post now tracks which content you export from all Feed Channels and removes that content from the corresponding feed once you have exported it. This function is done automatically for you every time you do an export from the system, ensuring that your Feed Channels contain only the latest unused content automatically.

*Don’t fret though, we have added two additional features for content you want to keep and share again or share from another schedule. We have also added something for YOUR blogs’ RSS Feed. See the awesome new “Content Flags” and “Blog Ownership” features below!!

Content Delete:

Connected to the Sanitizing feature is a change to content deletion within Feed Channels. Previously when you deleted a post you did not want to use from a Feed Channel, it could appear in the channel again, at the next ingestion of content for that feed. Now, Bundle Post tracks the content you delete and does not ingest deleted posts to your Feed Channel again, making managing shared and curated content much easier.

The changed delete function is designated with a new  image next to every piece of content, anywhere you view a Feed Channel post in the system. Hitting the  graphic will remove that post from that Feed Channel permanently.

You will still be able to remove a post from the Export Table without permanently deleting the post from a Feed Channel. This feature is now clearly marked with a text link labeled “Remove“. Clicking to remove a specific post on the Export Table will remove that post from the export you are working on, but will not permanently delete it from the corresponding Feed Channel.

Content Flags:

From anywhere in the system you view content ingested from Feed Channels, you can now FLAG posts that you do not want the system to remove from a feed, so you can use it again later or use it for a different schedule export.

This powerful new function allows you to:

1) Pre-select content for a different schedule or social account at the time you are conducting an export for another schedule.

2) Keep flagged posts in their respective Feed Channels even though you have already exported the post for another schedule. (non-flagged posts are automatically removed per the “Sanitizing” function described above)

3) Efficiently “flag” content you want to share again from a specific Feed Channel.

The new Flag function is designated with a new  image next to every piece of content, anywhere you view a Feed Channel post in the system. Clicking the  graphic will flag that post with the  flag and designate the post to be kept in that Feed Channel until you delete it, even if you export it.

Blog Ownership:

Bundle Post now allows you to identify a Feed Channel as being you or your clients’ Blog. This new feature makes all content evergreen in that channel, no matter how many times you export it, without needing to flag content manually to be kept in the Feed Channel.

Owned Blog ContentFor example, if a Feed Channel you have added to Bundle Post is your blog, a clients’ blog, or simply an RSS feed you never want content to be removed from, simply click the  next to the feed name on the Feed Channel page to turn it on and the system will automatically keep all content in the feed up to a maximum of 250 posts. As the feed increases beyond 250 posts, the oldest will drop off, leaving the newest content in the Feed Channel for you.

This is the first of many steps we have planned for blog ownership, paving the way for additional internal content discovery, improved reach and tribal-like sharing of other Bundle Post users content. More to come…

More Content:

We were not at all happy with how the system ingested, saved and added content to Feed Channels. Without getting into the technical details, the result of how it worked made the quantity of content you had available extremely limited from both alert feeds and even RSS.

Today we are announcing that we have made substantial changes to the core content ingestion system that will now be appending content to your feed channels, rather than overwriting content every time it ingests. The end result is that Feed Channels will now grow to the most recent 250 posts, instead of overwriting with the few most recent posts four times per day.

The system will still ingest content multiple times everyday, but the difference is that all new content found will be added to content discovered previously, up to 250 posts. This will increase the amount of content the system has available for you to review and share and most importantly give you more content options.

User Interface:

New InterfaceWe have enhanced the interface screens for viewing content to include icons for view, delete and the new flag function. This new interface has been implemented to every location within the system that you view posts from a Feed Channel.

The Export Table interface includes these new icons and functions but also has the addition of the “Remove” option we discussed earlier. Remove works as the old delete option used to, in that it only removes a post from the export table, but does not delete the post permanently from a Feed Channel.

The long text descriptions included with each post inside view Feed Channel and selecting content for the Export Table have been removed, making a cleaner interface when viewing and selecting posts. An on hover function that will display the lengthy description previously shown for every post, as well as thumbnail images for posts will be added to the interface sometime following this major release.

used contentFinally, we have added a  icon to the view Feed Channel and select content windows to visually show posts that you have already used in a previous export.

Additional Bugs:

We have also addressed a few additional issues that had been reported in the system.

1) Folder naming with special characters causing issues – resolved

2) Text edits of posts in Feed Channel view were overwriting edits on next ingestion – resolved

3) Some special characters in the text of posts were not being handled properly still – resolved

As you can see this Bundle Post 2.5 release is packed with a ton of new features, upgrades and enhancements that go even further to help you be more efficient, effective and profitable with your social media marketing efforts. This release is an interim step to the next 3.0 version that will also take the system and social media management to new levels.
